Meet Your Coaches
Josh loves the students at East High and feels lucky to coach them. He especially enjoys seeing them improve and grow over the course of their high school careers, and feels honored to play a role in helping them reach their potential. At Pella High School, Josh ran sprint relays and went on to play football at Central College.
Track is Linnea’s favorite sport. She loves the excitement at meets and how being a track coach gives you the opportunity to celebrate the athletes every day—their kindness, resilience, and hard work. In high school, Linnea performed in distance events and went to state track every year. She is a graduate of Iowa State University.
I am a Des Moines East High School Alum. After high school I attended Junior College, played football, got a full ride to play at SBU in Missouri and eventually graduated from Grandview University. In high school I ran sprints. Open 100, 200 and all sprint medleys. Our 4x100 team held the state record and the fastest time in school history. Our 4x200 is the fastest time in school history. I love coaching kids in all sports but especially track. I love seeing the progress athletes can make in this sport. I get to challenge individuals to push themselves and show each of them what they can accomplish and overcome, and how they can grow themselves through running track. I love that East is a diverse community that accepts everyone just as they are. I came back to coach and support this community and I believe, together, we can bring back real East side pride.
David loves getting to know each individual on the team and seeing them progress in their events throughout the year. On the track and off, David looks forward to helping student-athletes reach their goals. In high school, David participated in track and went on to perform high jump at the University of Northern Iowa.
A bit of a floater on her high school track team, Mallory ran on a relay when needed and threw discus. She is the first to say she is a better runner now than she was back then. At Iowa State she studied kinesiology and health, gaining speed by playing rugby. As a track coach, she loves watching the athletes at East develop their skills and gain confidence, becoming coaches and leaders for one another.
An East High grad herself, Laurel loves being back at her alma mater, seeing athletes succeed and gain confidence. After East, Laurel attended NIACC and Grandview University. During her track and field days, she took part in hurdles, sprints, relays, the pentathlon, and the heptathlon. As a coach, her main goals are to inspire, teach, and have fun.
Matt enjoys seeing athletes grow not only in their events, but their everyday lives. He values trust and relationships, making him the go-to guy when you need advice. In high school on the West Coast, Matt threw shot put and discus. After graduation, he attended Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA, followed by Grandview University.
